Media Art Reflection 8 Impact of Illegal Downloading

Nowadays, illegal downloading is a biggest problem against producers and manufacturing corporations. Illegal downloading is illegal share informations by uses the practice of distributing or providing access to digitally stored information, such as computer programs, multimedia, documents or electronic books. It may be implemented through a variety of ways. Common methods of storage, transmission and dispersion include manual sharing utilizing removable media, centralized servers on computer networks, World Wide Web-based hyperlinked documents, and the use of distributed peer-to-peer networking.Illegal downloading involves some issues of copyright. Illegal downloading also will impact some film or music production companies, influence their profits, and exclusionary rights.

James Burbidge side: “Dodgy DVDs and increasingly, illegal downloads, cost the film industry massive amounts of revenue every year. A report in 2005 for the Motion Picture Association (all the big studios) estimated that the studios lost $6.1 billion a year and that the industry as a whole (theatres, cable tv etc included) lost $18.2 billion. At the time it was estimated that of that $18.2 billion, $7.1 was due to internet piracy. There are few people, I feel, who would disagree with the suggestion that that figure has risen. This loss of revenue will obviously cause serious financial problems for the studios and is certainly contributing to their current downfall.” His article show us all the big studios will lose how much money yearly. This is a huge wastage for a large proportion of studios.

In the Industry Canada website, they make mention of “Royalties would be affected if private copying reforms were to influence the extent of legal downloading. A recent study based on U.S. data suggests that of the 99 cents consumers typically pay for a digital download, 8 cents goes towards the mechanical royalty, 3 cents to the producer and 7 cents to the artist. With the expected growth in legal downloading, these payments should become a more significant source of revenue for rights holders.Private copying reforms may affect legal downloading in two ways. First, private copying levies will affect the price of legal as well as illegal downloading. Price impacts are likely to be very small, however, given that the elasticity of demand for recording media is (with the possible exception of DARs) quite low and that changes in blank media purchases do not lead to corresponding changes in private copying. Second, a law limiting the regime to authorized sources only would support other reforms intended to discourage unauthorized file sharing and could help encourage a shift from copying from unauthorized to authorized sources. This may be more important, but it would be difficult to separate the potential contribution of private copying reforms from the impact of other social and legal changes, including other amendments to the Act, that underlie the growth over time in legal downloading.” Illegal downloading is a huge issue of copyright’s equity. So reduce and control illegal downloading can stick up for companies’ profits.

The Government should step up efforts to control this unlawful act. Just like that can help some companies maintain their rights.

Facebook is an online social networking service headquartered in Menlo Park, California. Its name comes from a colloquialism for the directory given to students at some American universities.Facebook was founded on February 4, 2004, by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes.

About the advantages of using Facebook. Facebook is the most appropriate tool for finding Old friends. When friends go away to any other place, we often don't get the chance to communicate with them. But now Facebook gives us the opportunity to communicate with our Old friend very easily without any cost. Facebook as a mainstream social network site, it is successful about its search way is very rapid, and it has intelligent screen.

But Facebook’s elusive is a little low. Everyone can visit people’s home page in the Facebook. This will involve people’s privacy problem. I think this will be a disadvantage of Facebook.

Media Art Reflection 6 Theatre Review of A  Midsummer Night's Dream

Midsummer Night's Dream, one of the greatest comedies of William Shakespeare, depicts a group of young men who condemn the church's asceticism, and seek for free marriages. Hermia’s father wanted her daughter married Demetrius but not Lysander. But Hermis really love Lysander. Because she can’t refuse his father’s request, she decided to escape through the forest at night with her true love to another country. She told her plan to her friend, Helena who love Demetrius. But Demetrius didn’t love her at all. Helena told the Hermia’s plan to Demetrius who also love Helena so that she can follow him. They together went to the forest. 

Meanwhile in the forest there are Oberon & Titania ---The king and Queen of fairies, who are quarrel with each other, because the king wanted a child who belong Titania. So he let Puck find a magic flower which can make person fall in love at the first sight after sleeping. He used the flower and make Titania fall in love with an ugly Ducky-Man and then successfully get the child. He also wanted use the flower to help Helena after hearing the dialog between Helena and Demetrius. Oberon wanted Demetrius also love Helena so that he let Puck put the flower into Demetrius’ eyes. But Puck made a mistake, which he put the flower into Lysander’s eyes so that Lysander also fell in love with Helena. Now both Lysander and Demetrius love Helena, so they had a fight. After realizing the mistake, Oberon let Puck do it again. After Oberon and Titania’s dancing they forgot all the things. Then Lysander loves Hermia again, and Demetrius love Helena. The ending of this story is really happy.

Bottom is a character in the Midsummer Night's Dream play. He just is a support, but he occupy lats of parts of task that is make audiences feel funny and laugh. He always make audiences happy with his action whether it was a joke, a funny sight, a tickle or a funny situation. Bottom’s movement, expression and words all these things are important part in this play. That fill the gaps and strengthen the depth of feeling. He appear on the scene at every turn will get audiences’ laugh and applauses. Bottom make funny story to be connected with love story. He is a point of junction between every character. Bottom is a best setting in this play, also is a watching focus. He is a very successful character, Our memory might is he after the end of this play.

If I had to grade the play A midsummer night’s dream. I will give this play a rating is 4 stars, but Bottom can get 5 stars by individual.

 Media Art Reflection 4 Using Media Arts for Social Justice

Social justice is the ability people have to realize their potential in the society where they live. Classically, "justice" referred to ensuring that individuals both fulfilled their societal roles, and received what was due from society. "Social justice" is generally used to refer to a set of institutions which will enable people to lead a fulfilling life and be active contributors to their community. The goal of social justice is generally the same as human development.

We used media art to create a space that show some unfair in the social justice. Media art is a terrace to annotation social justice to people who did not know that. Make people pay more attention to vulnerable people. Some producers survey lots of conditions and social environment for find a significative to reflect an issue of justice. And authenticity is most important part in this job.

The challenges of using media arts for social justice is how to find a daily life story. Every producer hope their achievement is more successful and people much easier to accept it.And producer also will think about their theme will or not influence people’s original intention. And think about people‘s belief.

Media Art Reflection 3 Mixed Media

About My Mixed Media art work, I planed use Obama’s photo and USA’s national flag.

Barack Hussein Obama II is the 44th and current President of the United States, and the first African American to hold the office. His history is very educational and inspirational. So I choice this theme for my mixed media art work. My challenging is how to make these two things together and make the work become novel that can reflect what is Mixed media.I used Adobe Photoshop that is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Systems for Windows and OS X. 

I used Photoshop make the whole Obama’s photo become consist of letters, and the whole frames were adjusted be black. Then I draw a USA’s national flag by my hand. I used watercolour fill whole flag. And I used Photoshop again to add some stars. I used Photoshop make two things together and fixed some incomplete parts.

My Mixed Media art work want to reflect Obama’s spirit. Obama used science and technology effectively that is in the lead. I thing this is the most successful and the most clever in his life. And the USA’s flag and his expression reflect he focus on his country, all eyes on it.

Media Art Reflection 1  Media Art and Society

 Nowadays, media art has already permeated through all of our society. It plays a very important role in the public. In the recent society, everything is media art. Photograph, advertisement, product design and even though human’s ideology is media art. When people go to street, everything around them is media art. What they can see is media art.   

While I knew the definition of media art in the first class, I could think about many examples of it like packaging of snacks, the word art appears on cans, and clothes design. It is great to recognize the types of media art display in our society and it also needs us to appreciate and praise the beautiful media art which makes up the society. Media art not only uses the classical skill of art, but also uses the new technologies of today to make art towards media and electronic world. We use Photoshop, InDesign, and Flash and so on software to create art rather than only use paint and brush.    

I’m hoping to learn how to use the software to create my own media art. Through media art, I want to know more about the varied society.
