Media Art Reflection 2 Animation

  Animation is about creating “illusion” of “movement” using a series of still images. Animation has been divided into three sections which are hand drawn animation, stop motion animation and computer animation. In this blog article, I am going to discuss the hand drawn animation and computer animation.

Hand drawn animation is done by an artist who draws each character and movement individually which means it would be taken a lot of time to create a hand drawn animation. The process of hand drawn animation is, first, draw pictures, colour them on celluloid and then the artist takes pictures and animate them. The hours of labour involved the creation usually cost huge expense. There were series of Older Disney movies were created by hand drawn animation like Bambi, Fox and Hound and Cinderella. 

For computer animation, all characters and movements are generated using computer animation software and it can also be very time consuming as they might meet very complicated conditions in movements and effects. However, all of the characters are fully animated with no still pictures. It is obviously to see the most different part between hand drawn animation and computer animation is that if there is still picture drawn by hand. Even though computer animation does not need hand work, it still takes a great number of times to adjust the movements and effects. As the technology increasing dramatically, hand drawn animation has been taken place by computer animation gradually. 

The reason why people nowadays choose computer animation is that they could create more accurate movement by computer technology than hand drawn which is completely using eyes in some small changes of movement.While I was creating a small hand drawn flipbook, I felt easy to do that. But when I was using computer to work on animation, it becomes difficult because I needed to adjust many thing to accomplish a movement. And it was hard to learn a software.
